Got License? What’s Next?
Introduction to Amateur Radio
& Emergency Communications
Interactive Class with Hands-on Exercises
This class is for you if you have
recently received your license and have questions about terms used, operating
protocol, the different ham bands, or setting up your radio to access a
repeater (if you don’t know what a repeater is – don’t worry – we will cover
that, too). You will learn how to
participate in directed nets and handle emergency radio traffic. You’ll participate in interactive exercises
and hear recorded net traffic from real incidents. The course will also cover essential gear for
your emergency “go kit” and some example go kits will
be shown. The class will also introduce
you to local amateur radio organizations, and provide recommendations for
additional training and other steps you can take to get involved and be
prepared. Finally, an on-the-air
exercise puts it all together. What’s
next? Find out here!
This class is not
designed to help you pass any ham radio test.
If you have one, bring
your radio and its instruction manual. Don’t worry if you haven’t purchased a radio
yet – we will have a few available at the class.
