A few fire stations are included here; for a complete list, see another article in this chapter. Included here are EOCs and other sites of local and state government, Red Cross offices, utility companies, medical clinics, etc.The sites are grouped according to the general areas listed below. The areas are in the same order as in this list, and the area also appears at the bottom center of each page.
Santa Clara Operational Area EOC (Emergency Operations Center)
San Jose Area
56 West Younger St. (at N. 1st St., San Jose. Thomas Guide 54-F6 and K-C3.In the Sheriff's building. From I-880, take North First Street exit south (left), through the signal at West Younger, and right into the main parking lot between West Younger and Hedding Streets. Park on the West Younger (north) side and walk across West Younger into the front lobby. Show your Emergency Responder Identification and request access to the EOC. Take the elevator or stairs to the Fourth Floor, turn left, and enter the double doors to the OES offices. Follow the hallway to the right to the ARES/RACES radio room, which is the first door on your left.
Automobile parking permits are required on weekdays. Park legally, then obtain a parking permit from the on-duty ARES/RACES supervisor. Allow time before your shift begins to obtain the parking permit and re-park.

Santa Clara County Communications

San Jose City EOC (Emergency Operations Center)
855 North San Pedro Street, San Jose. Thomas Guide 61-F1.Between Mission and Hedding Streets, in the San Jose Police communications building.
This is a secure facility. Access is through the doorway on the North side of the building. At the entrance way, dial the number indicated on the telephone; identify yourself and the system control operator will buzz the door open. The EOC is on the fourth floor just to the left beyond the second secured doorway. The telephone here is just to the right of the doorway.
San Jose Fire Station 1 (Battalion 1 Headquarters)

San Jose Fire Station 29 (Battalion 29 Headquarters)

Antenna connector in the second-floor front dayroom; it is the bottom connector in the right-hand electrical raceway on the west wall. Responder must provide a length of coax cable to operate at station 29. EC suggested 50 feet of coax cable; operating position is not determined, and might be closer than 50 feet.
Santa Clara City Emergency Operations Center
Southeast Corner of Scott and Walsh. Thomas Guide 54-A4.From 101 Freeway go south on San Thomas Expressway to the first light, take Scott Blvd east (left); Scott curves south and crosses Central Expressway; turn east (left) at Walsh and immediately turn right into the first driveway; park.
Entrance is the brown door at the southeast corner of the parking lot. If the door is locked, announce yourself on the intercom. Go down tunnel, take first left corridor, through door, hard right after steps to RACES room. The RACES room is usually unlocked; the EC and the Communications Supervisor have keys. There are 3 2-meter transceivers, one with packet equipment, and an HF transceiver. Headphones are in the drawers. The EOC has emergency power.

Two multiband antennas with SO-239 jacks on floor under table in EOC radio room. Cabinet above table has a 2-meter/220 MHz radio with power supply and patch cords, and packet station equipment. Room has emergency power.

Located on west side of railroad station parking lot/bus terminal at the Palo Alto SP Caltrain Depot; north of MacArthur Park Restaurant. Turn off University Ave. at east side of El Camino Real intersection and follow SP/Caltrain and Red Cross signs to parking lot access road. Limited parking at north end of Red Cross building; more parking in Red Cross spaces in Depot lot. Antenna drop is in Disaster Services Office, north end of building. Complete HF, VHF, Satellite, and Packet communications station.Palo Alto Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
City Hall, 250 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto. Thomas Guide 44-A1.Enter Police Dept. from Hamilton avenue side of City Hall and go past Council Chamber to Police Receptionist Desk. Or enter through Police Dept. entrance on Forest Ave. side. After hours, doors will be locked; use outside telephone at Forest Ave Police entrance as per posted instructions; Police Receptionist will arrange escort to EOC. If no answer use red phone direct to Dispatcher, who will arrange entrance.
Antenna drop: Health and Welfare Position, last one on right wall of EOC room. Cabinet is padlocked; key in Master Key Cabinet in Communications Dispatch Room; ask Chief Dispatcher for it. Cabinet door drops down to become a table: 3 antenna cables inside. Two are small RG-48/U with male BNC connectors, for 144 to 148 MHz only. The third is larger RG-8/U cable with UHF male connector, to a discone. Coax adapters in cabinet. A triplexer on the discone provides simultaneous 144, 220, and 440 mHz operation. Two transceivers, one for 2M, one for 220 MHz, are installed. The 220 MHz rig uses the 220 MHz port on the triplexer. (Responders could bring a 440 rig and 2 more 144 rigs to connect to remaining antenna ports.)

The radio equipment is in the police Report Writing Room, downstairs. Batteries and chargers are under the counter. The 220 and 2m transceivers and packet TNC are in the wooden cabinets. Two antenna cables along the wall by the counter are terminated with type N connectors. Both are connected to tri-band 2m-220-440- antennas on the tower outside.
Los Gatos EOC (Emergency Operating Center)

From Hwy. 17 take Saratoga Ave (Hwy. 9) east one-quarter mile to Los Gatos Blvd, go south on Los Gatos Blvd which turns into Main St. as the road curves to the west. Pass Los Gatos High School on the right. Turn left onto Pageant and park near the Library on the left. Walk to the police station. Antenna drops in the basement for 2-meter and 220 MHz; connectors are PL259, and should have BNC male adapters attached.
Monte Sereno EOC (Emergency Operations Center)

From Santa Cruz Ave intersection in Los Gatos, go west about 0.4 miles to Rose Ave. The Monte Sereno EOC is on the right, at the corner of Rose Ave. Next to it is the new Monte Sereno City Hall. South County AreaSanta Clara County Government Center (South County),

Go west on San Martin to Monterey Road (at the railroad tracks), and turn left. Go south on Monterey to the next light, First Street, and turn right. Go south on Monterey about 1 mile to Highland Avenue; turn right onto Highland. No radios or antenna drops.
Morgan Hill City Police Department
Corner of Monterey Highway and Main Avenue. Thomas Guide 79-E4.Take Freeway 101 to Cochrane Road, go southwest to Monterey Highway (Business 101), go southeast (left) about 1.2 miles to Main Avenue. There are two discone wideband antennas; each feed line has a PL259 plug. There is emergency 120 volt power. No radios or power supplies.
Morgan Hill City Hall and EOC (this is NOT the ham station!)
On DeWitt Avenue, southeast of Main Avenue. Thomas Guide 79-D5.From Morgan Hill Police (see above), on West Main Avenue go southwest about 0.7 miles to DeWitt Avenue, go southeast (left) to City Hall. EOC is in the City Council chambers. Has emergency 110 volt power, packet station, plus ham equipment (no details; antenna?).

CDF Morgan Hill (Calif. Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection)

Gilroy Police, Communications, and EOC

Go west on Leavesley to Monterey Road (at the railroad tracks), and turn left. Go south on Monterey to the next light, First Street, and turn right. Go west on First to the next light, Church Street, and turn left. Go south on Church Street nearly one mile to Sixth Street, and turn right. Go west one block on Sixth to Rosanna Street, and turn left. The Police Department is on the left. Communications and the EOC are downstairs in the basement. Radio and antenna drop are in the Communications Center.
